is it because your pupils can only allow a minimum amount of light in so it must contract?

  1. Well actually it's the other way around.=D After you spend a lot of time indoors it's temporarily hard to see well when you go outdoors.

Probably that's because pupils didn't contract much but expanded to get more light, but when you suddenly go outside, pupils need to take some time to contract and get used to the light that it needed so much in the dark to see.

Note:- i didn't use any stupid scientific words that usually make people confused, i just explained it simply.

  2. You've almost got it it's a mixture of pupil size and the 'cones and rods' which are the sensors at the back of the eye. Outside the muscles controlling the diameter of your pupil reduce the pupil size (this is so less light enters the eye as too much can be damaging). When you go inside your pupil has to adjust to allow more light in and the sensors at the back of your eye in a way need to 'reactivate' as they become desensitized when you're outside for a while, until they do this it can be a little hard to see.

Edit: I'd hardly say I used 'stupid' scientific words and the answer above isn't exactly hard to understand.  I think it works both ways really,  I'd have thought a lot of people would have experienced going indoors and it seeming very very dark after being outside for a while though

  3. yeah youre right...when your outdoors in the sun your pupils are very small because theres tons of light...and when you go inside where its much darker your pupils have to contract to make them larger to let more light in...but they cant do it instantly. it takes a couple seconds so during those seconds its a little hard to see

  4. That is because our eyes are undergoing sensory adaptations.. The pupillary muscles dilate so that light enters sufficiently into the eyes..
