  1. If you are in the water whilst your nose is close to it, it can become harder to breathe because water exerts more pressure on your body than air does. This makes it harder for your lungs to expand, thus resulting in more effort whilst breathing. If you are in a swimming pool, the effects of the chlorine and other chemicals can also make it harder to breathe.

If you are meaning when your body is out of water and your nose is near the surface, then I'm not really sure!

  2. when youre in water there is no air.

  3. When your in the water there is no air.

  4. It's instinct.  Your body is afraid that if you inhale close to the water, you'll inhale the water as well.
