Why is it harder to run outside than on a treadmill? Do I burn more when I run outside?

  2. Well, when you run outside the wind is resistance. On a treadmill, there is no resistance, you're running in one place while the bottom of the treadmill is moving for you. Hope that helps.

  3. Most who use treadmills fail to use the incline feature. Obviously running outside incorporates changes in grade. Secondly, you eliminate any head winds on an indoor treadmill. Those are the two biggest factors as to why running outdoors is a far superior workout to a treadmill run.  

  4. well I'm not sure if you burn more, but the reason it is harder is there are a lot more factors that go into running outside, it's not as cushioned on your knees so it wears down your legs a little quicker you are running with wind either with you or against you, and there are constant hills outside, and a treadmill there is more cushion and you are running in a stationary position, no ups downs and no wind pushing you one way or the next
