Why is it i have been smoking for 1month and am not addicted

i know it's not good for me and it's a good thing im not addicted but i have been doing it for 1month and it's a social thing.

  1. because it's just been one month!!! don't wait for more years until you get the nicotine addiction. as early as today, you can stop smoking before you get addicted and suffer nicotine withdrawals. i tell you, it sucks to go cold turkey. you can also stop before you get lung cancer, you know. :)


  2. I smoked for a year an a half, I'd sometimes have one when I'd first wake up in the morning. I'm not addicted. I can do without, oh, and I don't smoke at all anymore...

    Plus, I think knowing that you could die from smoking, is pretty much all you need to give up. When you stand there and put the smoke in your mouth, it's like saying 'I want to die, please tar, kill me'

  5. You are addicted you just dont realise it, If you werent addicted, then why would you have been smoking for The past  month?, stop the ciggies for a bit, and see if you get cravings, if so, then its gonna be hard for you to quit.

    Dont leave it and wait for ages cos then it will be harder to quit!

  6. trust me you dont want to get addicted i am 17 and have been smoking for 5 years and regret every second of it you dont want to get addicted its easy to start and costs a fortune then its as hard as anything to quit. but if you only smoke every now and again then you wont get addicted as quickly as someone who has a smoke say every hour S2

  7. Okay I have this same issue. I smoke every once in a while. One night recently I smoked a whole pack while at a bar. I do not find it addicting in any way. Still I can smoke or not smoke and I do not find it any big deal.

  10. LOL, some of these answers are totally out in space. In fact, not everybody gets addicted to smoking -- it depends on what genes you have, how old you are, what s*x you are, and how much/how long/how regularly you smoke. Also, while there are exceptions, most people have to smoke regularly for at least five or six months to get addiced. Even if you do become addicted, there are different degrees, e.g., I smoked about half a pack in junior high and sometimes I'd get mild cravings at school, but I could stop for days or weeks when I was someplace I couldn't smoke, so I was addicted, but it was mild. Later on when I was smoking much more and could do it all day, I got much more seriously addicted.

  11. How do you know you are not addicted?

    Have you tried not smoking, even for "social" reasons?

    Even if you are not physically addicted you can be addicted to it as a way to socialize.

    I think it's a very stupid thing to do but it's your lung tissue.

A lot about smoking has to do with personality.  You say you are a social smoker, then you are like a friend of mine.  She has been "smoking" the occasional (maybe two a month) cigarette for about 3 years.  Now here is her addiction...and most likely yours later on.  She doesn't want a cigarette everyday, nor every month...unless she drinks or is at a party where someone else has one.  EVERY time she drinks now, it is associated with smoking.  So though you may not be addicted in the normal sense, you could easily become addicted to smoking at every "social interaction".  

    You know the health risks of smoking, so does everyone.  Therefore, I won't lecture you.  The amount of cigarettes she smokes will most likely not lead to health problems.  So my advice to you would be to make sure you ONLY smoke at those social gatherings in order to keep your health in its prime condition.

  14. the best way to find out if your addicted is to stop smoking and see if you need it   if not then you just like me
