Why are jokes about colored people considered racist while it is OK to tell jokes about the Irish, the Scots and many other of European descent are considered as acceptable.

Is it a question of maturity?

  1. I have no problem with jokes that play on stereotypes and think that most people would never tell jokes with malice. I have white friends who are always making black jokes and I make white jokes.

I hate the way that many black people immediately take offense at jokes even if they aren't made with hatred. I just hope that in the future it will be possible for everyone to laugh at themselves.

  2. did you honestly just use the term "coloreds"?

Well tarnation... I reckon that no matter who the joke is about it would still be racist/discriminatory.

  3. I kind of find it a double standard, because in my school almost all the black kids make fun of or joke about white and all other raced kids constantly but if you say one thing about them, you're racist, even if it wasn't something insulting.

  4. No your comparing jokes about ethnicity to to jokes about race. Its two different things. How you don't see that is beyond me.

  5. Some people just can't take a joke. Some black people and holier than thou whites love to take offense to stuff like that.

But, if you watch family guy or south park (and other shows)...they make fun of black people, irish people, jews, g**s, buddhists, christians, everybody! I think its hilarious. I'm an asian and a Buddhist and I never take offense to jokes about that. A jokes a joke, people tend to be too serious.

There was this mexican comedian making jokes about what people eat, mexicans eat burritos, so and so eats this, and when he said black people love watermelon and chicken, the crowd got quiet.

I think its a matter of what kind of person you're dealing with too. When I was in high school,  I used the word c***k to an asian friend of mine, and this white kid comes up and starts attacking me for using the word. Saying I'm a racist and am ignorant. I'm asian and so is my buddy...what the h**l. Some people are just too quick to offend and be politically correct or whatever.

Musica, its funny because we're different (different cultures, upbringing, etc) and its okay to mention those differences and poke a little fun. Lighten up

Oh, but if its a blatantly racist joke, then thats different...NO Surrender haha

  6. Because the coloreds(blacks) are drama queens. They can't handle hearing the truth

  7. Personally, I don't think any sort of joke that targets any ethnic groups in a meanspirited way is ok.  Example? So-called "p****k" jokes are just as demeaning as "black" jokes...and those who tell such jokes are emotionally immature.  Why do some people think that making rude and hostile comments about people under the guise of jokes is ok? Why is ok to make jokes at the expense of other people no matter who they are? and when the jokester is called on it, they get angry and defenive and accuse you of not having a sense of humor!

    EDIT

As for those who accuse others of not being able to "take a joke"....people who say that are rarely on the receiving end of such mean jokes!  I wonder how you'd feel if you were the target of a joke that when told repeatedly gets internalized, and then justifies discrimination against a person?

There are plenty of things to laugh about in the world.  Why must one persist and insist upon laughing at or make fun of someone's race or ethnic group or something someone can't help (such as a disability)?

  8. because blacks heard enough racism/jokes/harassment. you've dehumanized them completely, made them second class citizens, called them 3/5ths of a MAN, put them in slave ships, sparyed them down with water hoses, bombed their churches, TERRORIZED THEM (for no reason at all), hung them...

so THEY can make fun of YOU..because YOU have not been put through a d**n thing, in compsarison to what you put THEM through.

  9. I think it's more about content and intent.
