Why is it illegal to commit suicide?

I'm not talking about the morals of suicide, I'm talking law. Why is it illegal to take your own life, when it is your body, your mind, your own life?

Because it is illegal to kill somebody.

That doesn't matter if that is you or somebody else.

However... they can't punish somebody who committed suicide, they are already dead.
