Why is it illegal to own box turtles in PA?

i was just wondering why it was it seems stupid cuz there no endangered or anything so why is it illegal?

it is illegal cause they are endangered and hard to find because they get killed by predators and get ran over on roads.

Box Turtles are a threatened species, and some are endangered. Many people who take the box turtles out of the wild do not supply them with adequate care, decreasing the population even more. But there are alternatives. You can own a captive bred box turtle. These are born in captivity, usually used to human contact, and come parasite free.
