  1. Many years ago it was a safety issue.  However, in Oregon, in order to change the law it must be voted on in a general election.  It has been on the ballot before and everyone always votes against changing the law.  We don't like having to pump our own gas - it's as simple as that.

  2. I don't know...I live in NJ and it's the same way...but I like it like that!

  3. It was started under the premise of safety many years ago and has been kept largely due to Oregon being a socialist state and the idea of firing thousands of gas station workers is not popular politically. Ironically, the rule doesn't apply to the pumping of diesel fuel, propane or other flammable substances.

  4. Probably trying to avoid 'gas & dashes' (where someone pumps gas and leaves without paying). Or trying to avoid gas spills.

  5. I heard it's to ensure that the people who work at the gas station have a job. Some sort of union thing where they don't want machines replacing people's jobs.

  6. I think that they want to create more jobs for people to help the economy.
