  1. To defend against Satan. For he is always at work from all fronts.

  2. In case death comes we are ready to face our maker and becuase He is the one we must be like in order to behold Him when He comes.

  3. Because what is in our hearts and thoughts become words and actions.  If it is in Christ that's one thing. If it is not, that is entirely something different.

  4. I was wondering the same thing? Are you trying to teach rhetorically, or do you really not know any of these answers?

  5. Why do you keep asking questions that assume things that are not necessarily true?

  6. Because the devil is a roaring lion out to deceive and rob any Christian of all his rights if he can!  This enemy is the destroyer of all that Jesus is trying to build in the Christian life.  Only Christ offers spiritual protection, peace and rest...Jesus is the shield and the protector os our souls, our lives our spirits.  He is life to the weary!  And his armour is attack resistant!

    Hope this helps!

  7. we live on a sinful planet, satan's influence and hate is all around us, we need jesus for protection, and make us strong to face trials.

  8. There is so much hatred out there for Christ and his followers, so much evil, sin, temptation, the only way that a Christian can get through all that is to focus on Jesus Christ - our Lord and Saviour.  It is through his strength alone that we persevere.  He is truth. He is love.  It is through Him alone that we have eternal life.

    God bless you Sandy.

  9. .. If that was true then Jesus F'd up my heart.

  10. Hi Sandy,

There is nothing more important than guarding our hearts, minds and tongue. Jesus tells us that it is from within that every kind of fornication, slander, malice, envy and evil comes and so if we are not guarding ourselves then we risk falling foul of the desires of our own sinful natures.

If every evil action starts as an evil thought then in order for us to address the problem of sin in our lives we must pay close attention to our thoughts. To have an evil thought is not in itself sinful; this is often just one of the devil’s ways of tempting us. However, when we allow ourselves to enjoy a thought or mental image that we know is contrary to God’s desires, then we are guilty of sin. To dwell on our self-indulgent or self gratifying thoughts is to become self-centred. To become self-centred is to consider someone other than God as more worthy of being the focus in our lives and this, as we have already seen, is the very essence of sin.

God is omnipresent, He is everywhere at all times and we cannot hide our thoughts from Him. Everything is laid bare to God and there is nothing in heaven or earth that He does not see:

    “From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind;

from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth-

he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.”

    Psalm 33:13–15

“You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.”

    Psalm 139:2

Our internal thoughts affect our external actions. Jesus taught that a good tree will produce good fruit while a bad tree will only produce bad fruit:

“Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognised by its fruit.”

    Mathew 12:33

In this analogy about the human heart Jesus taught that if a person is good on the inside they will produce good fruit by way of actions and words; however, if they are rotten on the inside their actions and words will be rotten as well. The evidence of a life devoted to God is the fruit of the Spirit: ‘love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control’ (Galatians 5:22–23). In encouraging us to produce good fruit and guard our mind, Paul taught Christians to ‘take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ’ (2 Corinthians 10:5) and to be ‘transformed by the renewing of your mind’ (Romans 12:2). He further taught that rather than entertaining evil thoughts, we should fill our minds with ‘whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable … anything … excellent or praiseworthy’ (Philippians 4:8).

Ultimately it is God who tests our hearts and brings the challenges that refine them in order that we might strengthen our resolve against the devil. It is in our hearts that we will make our final choice about whether we will spend an eternity with our Father in paradise or an eternity separated from Him in h**l.

If we fail to guard our hearts, we risk them becoming hardened and if we fail to guard our thoughts we risk them becoming filled with the desires of the sinful nature. We were born in iniquity but are redeemed by Christ. The Christian life is a constant battle between the temptations of this fallen world and the hope and glory of the New Earth and a resotred relationship with God. The easy thing is to give in to temptation, the Christian challenge is to resist the devil so that he will flee from us. By daily putting on the full spiritual armour Paul describes in Ephesians 6 (which we do through worship - in spirit and in truth - and Bible Study), we are ready to deflect the fiery arrows of Satan and fully guard ourselves against every kind of evil.

May you draw nearer to Him each day sister!

  11. To guard one's heart, is to turn from the pull of our carnal nature and "put on the mind of Christ"...to me,this is descriptive of  daily sanctification...If we do not actively seek to be Christ-minded on a daily basis,we will rapidly succumb to the mind of the world or at best, grow spiritually stagnant.

  12. It is always better to live in the spirit, and not in the flesh.

  13. Yes, this verse begins with: -

"ABOVE ALL ELSE, guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life.

Much may come against us in a given day, things we hear and see which if we allow can take us from the presence of the Lord.

I must have the Saviour with me

For I dare not walk alone

I must feel His presence near me

And His arms around me thrown

Then my soul shall fear no ill

Let Him lead me where He will

I will go without a murmour

    And His footsteps follow still.

Be strong in the LORD and in the power of His might!

Put on the whole armour of God that we may be able to stand against the tricks of the devil.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities against powers, against rules of darkness of this age, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

  14. Because His Grace is sufficient for the 'day', and we do not know what 'tomorrow' will bring.

  15. Because Satan is transformed into an angel of light (understanding), but, his light is just a reflection.  His understanding is secular, and for secular minded people.

In this world of false doctrines and evil influences it is imperative for all to guard our minds !

In putting the whole Armour of God, there is a helmet of salvation, which tends to make us think this is the guard, but looking further, we find in Ephesians 6: 16 that a shield of faith is what will quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Faith comes by hearing ( what the Spirit is saying to the church ) and that hearing ( what the Spirit is saying to the church ), By the Word of God ( Jesus ).

So just what is meant by " fiery darts of the wicked " ? : Darts, is a word used to describe a heavy object, stone, ect... that is fixed to a rope to " sound " , or see how deep the water is. On a boat, one would be constantly pitching this into the water to measure depth. Spiritually, the evil thoughts presented to our minds by demons or those deceived, are those darts. Fiery is a key here, because of the effect left when a hot object touches us, SEARING our mind.

Satan is continually measuring the depth of the "water of the Word" in our minds, trying to throw a "fiery dart " to damage or pervert. If the water is deep enough, the dart will never reach intended target, and if it happens to, the water will cool down or extinguish the fire, making it less effective.

The key to guarding our mind is to have plenty of the "water of the Word" in our minds.

What is the " water of the Word " ? : It is not good enough to just have the Word in our minds. We must have something that makes us immovable. A nail in a sure place. A ROCK to build on. The enlightened Word of God ( revelation of Gods mind concerning the subject ).

After God has given a revealing in His Word, we know that we know , that we know !!! Un-shakeable ! A house fitted together on a solid foundation, built with unmovable stones , Jesus being the chief cornerstone.

    GUARD YOUR MIND !!!
