  1. because otherwise when they grow up they will most probably be nasty and rude to unfortunate people or be selfish

  2. our policy in preschool is - Feelings are very important

And they are - no matter what stage of life you are in, feelings are what makes you feel worthwhile or worthless.  You can make a person feel worthless with just a few words.  We have the children look at the other person's face and tell us how they think they are feeling and what can they do to make him have a happy face?

  3. Don't know miss .. please tell us.. *raises hand*

  4. They need it for social development...if they do not learn social skills they will find it hard to make friends and sustain relationships, behavioural difficulties esp in a school situation and group play, and may begin to have learning difficulties if they cannot access certain activities due to their social difficulties.

Empathy of other peoples emotion can also support them in understanding their own...eg for preschoolers children often read stories( or have them read) which have a message in it such as a dentist story-child goes to dentist, feel nervous. it goes well and child realises its not that bad...the child reading the story needs to be able to understand how the character felt to be able to understand their own feelings and benefit from the story.

Also in society respect for others is a neccessity in the work place, in families, walking along the street etc and may also result in criminal activity if child doesnt learn respect other peoples feeling (eg do not harm them) by adulthood!

  5. Understanding and respecting other peoples' feelings is the basis for all morality, the "would you like it if someone did that to you?" argument.  Everyone has to learn this at some point in their life and as children of preschool age are at that stage in their life when they transform from an egocentric view of the world to one which encompasses others it is the perfect opportunity for them to learn.

  6. Because otherwise we'll raise a generation of selfish, unsympathetic people

  7. Because if they don't learn then, they never will. They raise their children the same and then it's the end of our human existence
