  1. Economics is the study of human behaviour in the ordinary course of business. It is a social science. It's aim is to explain economic phenomenon, discover economic truth and use the knowledge of economics to address the economic and sovcio-economic problemss/ issues of the societies and the world human civilization. Therefore, economists need to be relevant - alive to the emerging economic phenomenon and the problems and issues facing the society in real life. This does not mean economists need not pusue abstract theorizing and resticit only to empiricism. Abstraction is as much necessary as emepriciem for being relevant. Methods involving abstraction help evole relevant concepts and analytical tools for better understanding of economic phenomenon, allow more scientific emperism to establish truths and design policies that are relevant to the society.

Without being relevant to the society from the current as well as the future perspectives of the societies and human civilization, no scientist or seeker of truth or technologists will be found useful.

So relevance is the most important justification for any scientist or professional in any discipline including economics.
