  1. For the same reason adults read age-appropriate books.

  2. One reason could be that the child would understand the book and be able to enjoy it more. This would encourage them to read more books. It enhances creativity and gives them knowledge of everyday happenings.

  3. its very important because the children should read a book for his age /some book have bad thing or word and also he will read it better because 2-3 age book is different then 11-12 age ??//// right ////??

  4. books that are too difficult will frustrate - books that are too easy will not challenge.  Preschoolers don't want to read baby books - they want to read age appropriate books that they are interested in.

  5. Do you mean age appropriate or appropriate for the child's reading level/ability?

If you mean appropriate for a child's reading level/ability, especially at the elementary level, it is important so that the child does not get frustrated and turned off to reading.

Any book that a child reads, he should have success with in order to motivate him/her to read more. If a child is reading alone, then he/she should be reading a book that he/she can comprehend and that contains words he/she can read. For children just learning to read, this means picking a book with 10 or less words that are unknown to the child to give the child practice on figuring out words using context clues. A book that someone reads out loud to that child can be on a higher level, of course.

If you are talking about age appropriate, it is so that children aren't exposed to topics that are not appropriate for them. However, who is to say what is appropriate, and what isn't?

Obviously, I wouldn't want a young child of mine reading a Harlequin romance novel, but if she was capable of reading and understanding  a book that was on a much higher level than her age, and the content was acceptable to me, I'd encourage it. Especially if it was a book that would open up a good dialogue with her.

  6. It is important to read age appropriate books so that the child doesn't learn about something they shouldn't be learning about.  Also it will help with comprehension skills and make them feel confident in reading.

  7. "Age appropriate" is defined by the child's abilities to comprehend, understand and interpret. As defined, books and other educational material are adjusted to children's specific skill level.

  8. So we can control their minds.

It is also important that the child not ask questions that the parents are unable to answer.  Better that they wait until they are older, and can ask other kids, or better yet, no longer care anything about reading at all so they won't ask us about the meaning of that silly whale in Moby d**k.

  9. it's not really that important whoever told you that is a r****d no offense. just know your child and let them find the books they enjoy my mom read Dante's inferno when she was 7 and she was fine i read ever mythology story i could get my hands on when i was 8 and i didn't think anything of it so it doesn't matter about age appropriate books its what your kids want to read they will only read what they can handle so don't worry.

  10. SO THEY WONT GET TO AHEAD OF THEMSELVES...BECAUSE AT THEIR AGE THEIR INTERPRETATION AND THEIR CERTAIN LEVEL OF WAT THEY UNDERSTAND AND WAT THEY CAN DO.
