  1. I'm assuming that by "scenic" you mean forests?

I think for me it is best to reflect on what happened when the settlers came to the United States and unknowingly deforested much of the eastern portion of the nation. If you don't preserve it people will for sure use it, and we need forested areas to take CO2 out of the atmosphere and convert it into oxygen. That would probably be the most anthropocentric [human-focused] explanation.

  2. For reasons of maintaining the ecological balance. Many countries, are not paying serious heed to this very serious requirement.

  3. Because it's part of out history and heritage. And yes, there are many, many places such places that have been preserved all across the land...

  4. So God does punish us for ruining his majestic painting

  5. same reason we have interior decorators and museums,

and fashion or prefer to live in a good looking place instead of

    a landfill.

In many places the local people are very proud of their surroundings and much is preserved  .Either from their own initiative or from the Government or both.

A lot of governments or municipalities have very strict regulations about preserving panoramas ,such as not planting pylons on the sky line

In the south of Portugal all houses that are build have to be Moorish style.

In the Netherlands  you need government permission to cut one of your own trees ,and they rarely give this.

My sister had to relocate her house because of a tree on her own property.

Of course in Poorer countries or places where the Environment is less important Or where corruption is rife,

    this does not happen.

And much natural beauty gets destroyed as well

  6. Some people need the scenic roads, etc. to remind them of the natural world we live in. Most certainly it is important to preserve areas that are not only scenic but high in biological diversity.  Even better would be to ensure that there are wild corridors connecting these areas, to facilitate the movement of wildlife.

Are we doing it? In fits and starts, depending on the political climate and available funds.  Our track record is mixed nationally.  I live in California, and the frenetic rush to develop anything natural did prompt a number of groups and agencies to step up efforts to preserve wild and scenic areas before they fell to development and were gone forever.  California State Parks have acquired a number of former ranch land, though it strained their ability to maintain the lands they already had!

And that said, we need to continue efforts to pick up in-holdings and expand buffer zones near wild areas so that current and future generations can appreciate the beautiful country we live in.
