Why is it important to respect an individual's cultural and religious beliefs?

What do you mean by "respect"?

We all need to "respect" each other's space and rights in order to maintain a civilization. You have to allow everyone else to believe what they believe and be polite about it in everyday life. In your heart, however, I don't believe you have to "respect" anyone else's opinions. You have full right to think and feel that they are loads of c**p. It's entirely possible that some opinions are not worthy of respect. If you're asked your opinion, you have full right to tell them what you think, politely. I have ZERO respect for a lot of opinions. Many of which I read in here!

because how would you like someone saying i hate you! you f$%king (insert slur here) you are inferior to (insert their culture) i hate you d**n (insert religious slur) you would be pretty upset

in other words if you want people to respect your beliefs you have to respect theirs

Because we all have the right to believe the way we were raised and to live the way  we choose.  Would you want anything less for yourself?

Funny thing is that if I say 1+1=3 everybody jumps on my case.

But if I say my religious belief is 1+1=3 then everyone says "how nice". Very interesting etc.

Why dont we treat falsehoods like it really is - falsehoods.

This statement is exactly how I respect another fellow's religion.
