because it is spoken worldwide but if you live in a country where it is not spoken so much then you surely don't need to.

Speaking English is important as every where is done in English and speaking English left good impression of others.  It means is not that we left our own language.  But every where who claims that they work in HIndi (specially government offices) do not work in HIndi and only forwarding letter etc. are only in Hindi (pre printed) and inner all paper found to be in English.

Why is this question important? English is one of the three main global languages, and it makes the most sense..

It isn't, for everyone.  It depends on where you are and what you want to do.  If you are in an English-speaking country, it is important to be able to communicate with the majority of people around you.  In some other countries, it increases the number of jobs available to you because there is a lot of interface with those in English-speaking countries.  If, however, you don't live in an English-speaking country, and you aren't concerned about getting a job, then it probably doesn't matter much.
