Why is it important to study the physical features of each continent?

That is called GEOGRAPHY or GEOLOGY  and it's important because the GEOGRAPHY or GEOLOGY of a continent can tell you a lot about the way it was formed or the ability for people to survive there.

From Human geography point of view it is important. Physical features determine its mountain ranges and their direction that determine its climatic zone, vegetation, direction of flow of rivers. These determine the water availability, humidity, rainfall patterns. Agriculture that is the primary sustenance needs all the above details.

Surrounding seas, insularity of continental interiors determine climate, deserts which are essential for human settlement. Interplay of land and sea breeze directions is responsible formation of deserts (on continental west around 30d) and other climatic zones. This in turn determines the cultural patterns, society etc.
