  1. Software will often have flaws that may pose a security threat.  Developers are always on the lookout for these and whenever a security flaw is found they try to patch it ASAP.  On the other hand, lots of paid software upgrades are a way of making more money for the company so if it's not a security-related upgrade and the program is working fine I leave it alone.

As for hardware, many upgrades are made available to resolve known issues/problems that users have discovered while using the hardware.  Also, hardware upgrades include new drivers to ensure compatibility with new versions of the OS.

I'm not sure what you mean by the casing in a PC.  If you mean the PC case it's to protect the components of a PC, keep out dust and debris and avoid contact with the various electrical components in the case.  Keeping an optimum temperature and regulating heat flow is also crucial.

  2. Well the main reason to upgrade software and hardware is to keep up with the rapid growth of new technology.  If you want to be doing up-to-date things, you will need an up-to-date system.  Another reason is that some old hardware will degrade after a while like your hard drive.

Computer casing is important because it 1: protects the different components in a pc, and 2: helps regulate the temperature in a pc and concentrates the fans.

    Hope this helped!
