I'm watching Olympic Volleyball as we speak, but have seen this plenty times before. Every time one side earns a point they always cheer, hug, slap each other on the *** and act as if they won the entire game!! i know its team sport but come on! U don't see soccer teams or hockey teams act like that if the opposite team simply goes out of bounds or commits a foul.

  1. its to keep each other encouraged....even if the other team gets a point they still celebrate to keep each other encouraged

  2. they do that because it keeps their spirits up and keeps giving them hope.  And nonthey don't act like they won the game. If you'd ever watch the end of a match thenplayers who usually look slot happier then.

  3. When a team earns a point they do that to discourage the other team and put them down and to keep eachoether pumped up and the other side when they lose a ball will all hug eachother in a huddle and tell the girl who messed up its okay we got the next one etc and to keep eachother pumped up so they dont get down on themselve.

  4. Team Unity....You don't play for yourself, you play for your team and teammates. So every time a player has a big kill or a dig or a point won they celebrate together. Remember it's not the name on the back of your jersey that you play for, it's the one in the front.

Hockey players and Soccer players always celebrate a goal. Always.

  5. Because volleyball is a sport tht when someone makes a mistake it is usually that person that gets the blame. so when they make a point you try to celebrate to keep your team mates hopes and spirits high. & plus its easier to celebrate on a volleyball court than a soccer field.

  6. So, when soccer players score or hockey players score, they don't immediately run up and grant hugs to one another?  They do!  I can't remember the last time I saw someone score in soccer or hockey and they didn't!  (Why would you celebrate someone going out of bounds or committing a foul? There are no points to be earned there!)

Same in volleyball.  The celebrations in volleyball are actually shorter because the scoring happens after every play is done- so if the ball goes out of bounds, someone just scored. Quick hug, high five, whatever when the ball is being retrieved.  No big deal.

  7. i ask myself that question everyday.lol. maby they have gone crazy. and have u also realised that they do it even if they loose the point.CRAZY PEOPLE!!!he he

  8. I actually see other sports teams cheer when the other team screws up. I play soccer as well as volleyball (indoor), and my team cheers like crazy for our team when the other team screws up because it opens the door up for us to make a move. As for beach volleyball,  think about it for a second. If you are working your butt off trying to get a SINGLE point and you get that point, wouldn't you cheer? I know I would. Plus it helps keep up morale! There is nothing wrong with cheering. It actually lightens up the mood and makes your teammate more communicative.

  9. yea its pretty ridiculous but have you ever played Volleyball under pressure before cuz until you do you probably wont understand lol and there's a lot of energy on the court so its kinda a relief when you spike it in there face or make a great point.

  10. I think your description of the situation is a slightly exaggerated.

As a Mens' volleyball player/coach, I strongly discourage 'cheers' or any pre-determined routine if my team scores a point.  I hate seeing '1-2-3- ACE!' chants cheers, or any variation of those.  You will see this often at high school girls matches.

I do encourage positive interaction amongst the players on the court, and brief technical communication after every point.  I think this is more of what you're seeing at the Olympic level.  If an emphatic kill is made, or if a team wins a long rally, I can understand that celebration might be a little more crazy or prolonged.

  11. Because vb is team sport and u have to have TONS of team spirit! It is a big deal when some one makes a point! Yes sure you may not have won the game but u r a point closer! My team does the same thing
