Why is it necessary to raise the wages in these stores?

Well with the fuel prices going sky high. The costs of transporting the products to the stores goes up. So the stores have to raise prices. Unfortunately its all part of the economy.

Whenever the government raises the minimum wage it accomplishes one thing, and one thing only

It essentially lowers the wages everyone else makes.  

If you have busted your butt to get promoted or a raise, when minimum wage goes up your wages do not.

Then the cost of everything increases as stores still have to remain profitable or they close their doors.

Michigan raised minimum wage and unemployment went up as the companies just could not pay the higher wage AND employ as many people.  Plus the cost of everything went up too.

Minimum wage is just that, minimum.  It is used for people with little or no experience or for lousy workers that are a pain in the butt.
