  1. When you travel you get a better rounded vision of the world.

For example, I've had the ability (through work) to travel to:

India, Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong (before it reverted to Chinese control), Australia (x2), New Zealand (x2), The Cook Islands, Tahiti, England, Canada, US, The Netherlands, Dubai, Slovenia, Poland, Spain, Greece and probably others that I have forgotten.  (No, I'm not in the airline industry).

Anyway, by seeing all of those places, living in some for an extended period of time, and experiencing live there I now have a better understanding of the world around me.  I wouldn't have had that if I stayed home my whole life.

As my mother always said, you can get no better education then you can through travel.

  2. If you can afford it, it's good to travel just to experience how diverse and amazing the world is. If you cannot afford to travel, it is equally as good to appreciate where you are from and all that it has to offer.

  3. First of all who says that is the case?

If people are happy in their little world or don't have the independence or cash to travel it doesn't mean they are unhappy, just as people who regularly travel are no more likely to be happy.

It can be very interesting, rewarding, and an eye-opener to travel because we are subject to our own national media being the "truth" whether we realize it consciously or unconsciously.

However, as the world is becoming more and more "standardized", travel is not enough any more to get a real feeling for another country. You simply have to live and work there for a while.
