Why is it offensive in Christopher Columbus' part that America was derived from Amerigo Vespucci's name?

  1. If it was!  There's a distinct possibility it was named after Richard Amerik/Amerike.

    Various sites argue the evidence.

    But Columbus, despite his discoveries, never made it to the North American continent, so he has little to be miffed at.

    He gets his name on the country of Colombia and the Washington District, so he hasn't done badly.

    It was Amerigo who actually discovered it, Amerigo even walked on what today is Florida
