Why is it ok for black people to make racist or rude comments but its politically wrong for a white person?

EXAMPLE: if a black person calls you a "cracker", then you should have every right to call that person, a "n*gg*r." but you get accused of a hate crime, and they get off the hook even though they started it. the media is such BS cause they make me want to feel ashamed for being white. thats just wrong, why should i be blamed for something that my ancestor's did? in case you dont realize this im talking about slavery.

I agree.  My friends aren't so forgiving, and they live in a neighborhood with a lot of black people who are rude and nasty.  They call them n*****s when indoors and no one can hear, but they would NEVER dream of doing it to a black person's face.  They still say it, however...

I don't like using it to be honest.  I don't even think they should use it on each other, and I have thought about using "cracker" with my friends just to make fun of it in a way... I actually don't take much offense to cracker, I find it funny and if I was called one, I think I would laugh!

It sucks, but its the way the world works!

um i've hear people ask this before...i have never heard a black person call a white person cracker but i've heard plenty of people not just white call black people ******, wog, darkie, colored & other derogatory things because their black. I dont think its acceptable to di-respecting anyone because of their race but i do think it would be ignorant of people to say its not hurtful if not more hurtful to be called a ****** etc.. because of th sercumstance surrounding the word. I am in no way excusing any type of raceist behavour or language because its discusting, i dont think white people should be ashamed of being white but i think people in general should be ashamed that slavery was allowed to happen, the fact it  took so long to end & the treatment that still goes on today.

I'm not sure what the definition or connotation of "cracker" might be (assuming that it has some meaning other than "brittle savoury bisuit"). I doubt whether it carries the semantic load of "n*gg*r", but if you say they are equivalent, then who am I to argue?

Because black people were opressed by white people in the past ,, black people were enslaved, need i say more? also, i believe its because  white people have alot more power than any race ( asian, black) with this position of superiority, its just wrong too address  a nation your ancestors opressed,, in durogatory terms .i dont think theyre trying to make you feel ashamed for being white ,, they probably feel threatened beause white peoples superiority transcended through time and will probably last FOREVER, they dont call it a "white mans world" for nothing...but im not saying its fair for things to be this way but ,,,,

Its not okay per say its just that people think its wrong to say the N word and when a black person says cracker and you just sit there, your the guy that gets offended and does nothing. By the way I have seen people in public call a black person an N word and nothing violent happened. So its really all about who gets offended or not. For the slavery part that happened long ago and chances are if your family came here in the early 1900s then your ancestors never had slaves. Slave owners were mostly early English and Spanish settlers not just everyone who was white, and a little bit of knowledge white people were enslaved  too in history its not like black people were the only people to be enslaved ever. Slavery is one man grabbing a weapon and telling another to do his work or he'll beat/kill him and usually the outcome is the other man agrees.

I agree, it's crazy. There should be just one law for all, anyone who makes a racist remark about anyone else should be penalised, no matter what their colour. Well-meaning people started this silly system by trying to give people of colour  a break, to make up for past wrongs I think, but it really doesn't work. We shouldn't be doing things from a sense of guilt, but because we want fairness for all. If our culture is not fair for everybody then it isn't fair for anybody in the long run. (Things just swing around and you get the prejudice again from another angle, and so on and so on!)

Allowing ourselves to be walked all over is not helping us and it certainly isn't helping the people who choose to do that. Many people are looking for excuses to vent their rage about one thing or another,

and goodness knows we could all do that, but it's lying to ourselves in the end, and it does no good. A very wise person said "the truth shall set you free" (Sorry I can't remember who it was) and it's a fact, only when we are honest can we make headway in life.

However I wouldn't advise you to call someone a n*gg*r.  If he insults you, he is the one with the problem, decent people don't need to call each other names. He needs to deal with his own lack of self-respect. then he won't need to insult others. You can't cure racism with racism!

And Kassino , slavery is still going on in the world to this day, though it is not being done by Americans or any western nation. It is wrong,  unfortunately weak human beings are very oppressive to their fellow humans. Racism hurts just as much whoever it is done to.

black people are way more racist than white people.for example:a friend of mine was talking to a black girl....the other black people around were giving such rude looks to the black girl and my friend ...like "why are you talking to a WHITE girl"

I choose not to be around and associate with blacks,unless I have to.

I call them *******...but in the privacy of my own home...blacks yell cracker whenever they want.....cracker is a word only hurting them though....cracker means we cracked that whip!!!!

so,it only hurts them.I don't feel guilty over what my ancestors MAY have done 100 freakin years ago.

oh,and maybe it's not ok for  whites because maybe we are seen as having more class.

This is not always the case.. and seriously, because the word "cracker" can mean a number of things, it does not carry the same weight as the word n*****, which only means one thing.  But honestly, I don't think racial slurs of any kind are acceptable due to the fact that they are meant to hurt and degrade people especially since, contrary to popular belief, no one is superior.  Seriously.. Although many were raised to believe that there was such a thing.  

All and all racism is wrong no matter which race it comes from.  Its unacceptable and very demeaning.. In my opinion it shows a person's TRUE ignorance as well.
