Why is it ok for hispanics to write papers about Cesar Chavez, blacks about Martin Luther but it is not ok for a white to write about Adolph Hitler?

Not saying that I would but I have seen this happen.

  1. who says it's not ok?  I mean, hitler would NOT be my first choice to write about as say someone i admire or look up to, (like MLK) but I think he was definitely an ahem "interesting" person and i would like to know more about him. and also i think it is a culture thing. if a hispanic or african american is proud of their culture and wants to write or learn about another person of their race who was influential or makes them proud or whatever then it makes sense.  As a white person i definetly admire and look up to people like MLK and stuff but i think it is easier for say, an african american to RELATE to him because they would know better and unfortunately may have experienced first hand what he had gone through, it kind of gives you a different perspective

  2. I don't think there would be anything wrong with writing about Hitler, particularly if the paper was well researched and the assertions were backed up by documentation.

It's supposed to be about scholarship, not popularity. I know that the latter enters into it sometimes, but in the larger sense, we are supposed to be teaching students how to learn on their own, rather than parroting back what they hear in the lecture or read in the text.

We sure didn't spend 20 odd years in school to get rich, did we? At least we aren't anyway.

  3. Sez who that white people can't write about Adolph Hitler?

    Check out the following:

  4. Why shouldn't it be O.K.? Cesar Chavez and Martin Luther King were heroes to many of the population- I understand the point you were trying to make, but you needed to use two people other then Chavez  and King to make it.

  5. Funny..

Im hispanic I wouldnt write about Chavez.. god! I hate the guy! (sorry no offense but I just dont like him).

I guess that when you write, you enjoy expressing yourself about things you admire or want to share. Culture and backgrounds help to definy yourself. For example, when you walk into a house you will see pictures... why do we have them? becuase its a reference, of what we are or would like to become. So if blacks write about M. Luther.. it must be something that they see on him that it reflects themselves. Although personally I dont think its that common.

If I were invited to write about someone of those three I would write about Hitler, as I admire some of the things he did.

  6. There's no rule that says that white people can't write about Hitler, there is just a general reaction of disbelief and anger when one write that Hitler was a right OK guy who was misunderstood and was innocent of most of the crimes the n***s did or that he was such a niiiice person why people can't see it...
