I would rather fight on my soil and die on my soil than allow my child or friend to fight my battles for me and die on the soil of ANY OTHER COUNTRY...To me that's patriotism.

  1. Assuming "your child or friend" is 18, you don't have to allow them to do anything.  They are choosing to leave home to fight so that the fight never again comes to American soil.  If you don't want someone else fighting for you overseas, join the military and fight on your own behalf, or rather, on the behalf of those who do not want to or cannot leave home to fight for themselves.

  2. General George Patton once said, "No b*****d ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb b*****d die for his country."

And that's my philosophy as well.
