Why is it?????!!!!!?

Why is it now that everybody in my school knows im a red belt in martial arts, ive al of a suddenly gained respect???

The red belt means something in your karate class. Don't go telling anybody outside of your class or they might try to pick a fight with you.

because they don't want you to kick their butts. you knew this was going to happen that is why you told people you are a red belt.

it might be that even though you know how to fight and have a red belt and behave like you do, not looking for fights and picking on weaker students; heck who wouldn't respect that. If that's true, keep it up your representing the martial arts the way it should be represented.

Lol to be honest that wasnt how it worked for my school. You knew martial arts we either picked on u or some times just wanna start a fight. But I guess times changing.

It is probably because it is rare in your school that someone does martial arts. They might also want to be friends with you so you want attack or injure them because you know martial arts and is at a high level.

This is common. There are people that will respect you because you are a martial artist. But on the other hand there are those that will want to test you because you are a martial artist. I've seen both. Often we tell our student not to tell anyone about their training. But somehow it comes out. It happened to my son when he was elementary school. He didn't tell his peers that he knew martial arts. But one day he had to protect himself after repeatedly attempting to avoid a fight. This guy tried to hit him thinking my son was afraid. My son loved to spar! But he didn't want to hurt this other kid and he didn't want to get suspended. But when the boy tried to hit him he blocked the punch he said without thinking and hit the kid and knocked him into the wall. He was about to follow up with a few more strikes before but he restrained himself. Later that year he and a teacher did a demonstration at the school. He did a kata and broke some boards. Most of the kids thought that was great that he could break boards.

Because you know marital arts, most bullies will try to pick on people who are weaker than them. If a stronger person comes along they don't want to mess with them, because their unsure of whether they could take your or not.

Belts mean NOTHING, it's what's up stairs, in your head that counts.  You should not be fighting and being like, " Oh, I'm a Red  belt" then walk away.........

martial arts isn't for flaunting around.  But, I kind'a understand what your saying, and yes people will respect you after a fight that's just what happends in the World :)

How do they know your belt rank? You should not be telling people. You shold be humble. Quit bragging. People will start to try to test you and see if you are realy tough. You shold gain respect by being a good example. Be a good student. Be a good citizen. Help people with their problems. That is what it means to be a great martial artist. Few should know what you do.

You handled yourself maturely and used an appropriate amount of force to defend, not to attack.  That garners the respect of reasonable people.  

I would not waste time trying to lie or hide anything at this point.  You can be honest without bragging.  Your honesty and good example may also inspire someone else to study a martial art and get the same benefits you have.

Good job.  Be proud of yourself without being "too proud".
