Why is it recommended that Wellbutrin not be prescribed to people with preexisting eating disorders?

  1. There is a significant reason why Wellbutrin is not prescribed to people with some kinds of eating disorders, and that is that Wellbutrin is more likely than some other anti-depressants to cause seizure in patients who are in any way predisposed to have them.

    Electrolyte imbalances predispose people to seizures.  I think it's pretty self explanatory which types of eating disorders that are likely to cause electrolyte imbalances (those that include vomiting or purging in any form).  Additionally, Wellbutrin has not been shown to reduce suicidal tendencies, which is something that we worry about in people with eating disorders.


  2. Because a major side effect to this drug is loss of appitite. It is being cinsidered for a weight loss alternative. But most of all becuase it can cause seizures to anorexic or belumic people.

    On that note I started to take it and it had absolutely no effect of weight loss. It didn't suppress my appetite at all. Jus tmade me real dumb. I couldn't carry on a decent conversation. Couldn't hold a thought
