Why is it safe to burn a propane stove indoors, but not a propane cooker?

I live up North and we usually get snow in the winter, which sometimes cause the power to go out, I was wandering if it would be safe to get a small single burner propane cooker, to use when the power goes out, without having to stand outside?

  1. It's fine as long you have some ventilation for the fumes to disperse.

  2. For cooking purposes yes, for heating, no.

Normally gas cook stoves will put out a small amount of carbon monoxide and will not be a problem with the intermittent use and proper ventilation.

If you try to heat your home with the open flame of a cook stove CO levels would get dangerously high.

    Get a CO detector.

  3. It is never safe to run any kink of open flame heating device indoors. If you are still doubt full, contact your local gas supplier. They will have someone to help you with something safe. Good luck.

  4. propane produces poisonous gas when burning. the cooker needs to be vented outside. any type of fuel produces carbon monoxide and needs outside venting.

  5. it is never a good idea to have the tank inside at all...if you can run your line for your cooker from outside then i dont see a problem...

  6. If you observe the same rules of fire safety with the cooker as the stove then its perfectly safe.
