  1. There just harder to hit, that's why they started making hybrids so you won't even have to carry them in your bag.

  2. to many 3/4 iron is intimidating and in the middle of their swing they change their swing by trying to hit it harder and lifting the ball up.

its not your fault it just a mental thing. try to overcome it or buy hybrid. i actually like to use my 3/4 irons. I hit my 3 almost 230 with a slight fade.

  3. They have less loft and aren't played correctly by most players.

  4. I agree with the previous answer, invest in a recovery club and save yourself several shots and a lot of heart ache.

  5. Put #3 and #4 iron replacement hybrids in your bag.

So much easier to hit. I'm a 10 hdcp and took my 3 iron out of my bag and hit the h**l out of my 19* hybrid replacement.

Do as I suggest and you'll be happier with your game and may even lower your handicap.

  6. Most players swing harder when they have a 3/4 iron to hit.  Go to the range and pretend its an 8 iron, swing for accuracy and learn to live with the extra distance.

  7. It's not all your fault. The modern golf ball (you've heard Jack Nicklaus complain) doesn't spin near as much as the old wound balata's did. It take's back-spin to get a golf ball to rise with an iron. A long iron these days just doesn't impart enough spin to make a ball rise, unless you have enough swing-speed to over-ride the firmness of the new balls. The reason hybrids are pushed these days is not because they are better for the golfer. It's because they are better for the ball. MOST pro golfers are going to 2,3,and 4 iron replacements. It make technical sense and it makes more dollars and cents.

  8. Because you have poor fundamentals, and the only reason you are a 12 is because of cast perimeter weighted clubs that allow you to get the ball airborn and fairly straight without the proper skills.  I don't mean to be insulting, but if you had a truly good swing that repeated itself it wouldn't matter if you had a 9 iron or a 1 iron in your hands you would make solid contact with them all.

So you have a choice, you can learn a proper golf swing in which case your handicap will probably go up before it starts going down, or you can just "buy" your game replacing the long irons with hybrids and just keep hacking away.
