  1. My mom has a adoption agency and she talks about this stuff all the time and I am pretty sure they closed adoption in japan.

They still have it in china and here is her website. kidsfirstadoption.com

  2. Because in Japan, a child belongs to a particular family line as soon as it is born. No matter where it lives, the child is considered part of that family even if it is unwanted. Therefore the Japanese child would never be considered part of any new family. Familial ties and heritage is a big thing in Japan. It isnt a case of them "looking after their own" or "not wanting foreigners to adopt", it is a cultural issue. As far as I am aware, it is possible to adopt from Japan, but I know of few agencies that offer the program. Regular adoption does not sever ties withthe birth family, and so cannot be termed an orphan under American laws, meaning that the US will not give an entry visa, as only orphan adoptions are officially recognised by the US government.

  3. For the same reason it is difficult to adopt German children or French children. When countries are relatively wealthy and prosperous there are fewer children available for adoption--because most children are raised by their original parents. Those that are available for adoption, babies especially, are usually adopted in their own country, because there are many infertile families just waiting to adopt.

And really it is best for children who need to be adopted to be adopted into their own country and culture. Children who are adopted internationally lose not only their first family, but their birth culture, country and usually language. And it is hard to grow up as a person of color in a white family (as is often the case with international adoption). So it makes sense for the Japanese government to restrict international adoption.

  4. Because Japan does not have an international adoption program.  It's completely up to the country in question whether they have such a program or not.

  5. The Japanese stick together.  How many inter-racial japanese relationships do you know of?  I dont know of any, and their whole country is all Japanese people (minus the tourists).  Thats just how they do business...

  6. because japan is a first world county with a booming economy that doesn't need to supplement it by selling their children to affluent westerners...

and they want their children raised with people who share the same culture.

  7. they take care of their children!!!

and to the poster who said he/she doesn't see any inter-racial japanese couples, you haven't been to atlanta lately.  they're everywhere.  including my neighbors!

  8. Because they take care of their own

  9. JUST CALM DOWN, K! lol dats wat u told me for no apparent reason.

  10. The Japanese prefer to have Japanese children adopted by Japanese.
