  1. I am an American that lives in Budapest. You went to one of the rip off places. Sorry you had to go through that.

I come here every year for 6 months. I am also very surprized this trip by the high prices.

The inflation is insane as there is so much corruption in this government.

The average worker here only takes home about $500. to $600. USD a month. They are like vultures in the tourist areas.

In a local bar, a beer is around $2.00 and mixed drinks aren't too much more.

Of course being a tourist, it is best not to wander around in back streets so I don't know what to say.

Hopefully those sort of rip off places will go under sooner or later and people will have a better experience here.

I have been ripped off in other countries too. I doesn't feel good.

Edit: my husband told me that if you remember the name of the place where you were ripped off, you should report them to your embassy and tell them how you were treated. Something may be done because that was an outrageous amount of money for a few drinks. They may be blacklisted and not get a renewal on the business papers.

In the old"communist' days, this never would of happened, they would close them down at once.

  2. It's called a free market economy.  You set your prices at what the market will stand.  Another sucker has paid £8 for 2 orange juices and £18 for 2 gin and tonics - thank you very much!

Next time, learn some of the language and find a bar in the back streets where the locals go.

  3. I found Prague (center of the city) and Bratislava (old town) almost as expensive as Vienna, so maybe you will find Prague not as cheap as you remember it the next time you go.

  4. You obviously decided to drink on Vaci Ucta where they smell the tourist Florint a mile off.

As previous answerer suggested back street bars are the answer just learn a little Hungarian (two beers, hello, please, thank you, goodnight) and you'll be quids in.

We were there a couple of years back and lathough it was dearer than Prague it was still far cheaper than most European capitals.

My favourite drinking establishment was For Sale

  5. because they have better financial standard in Hungary, and  you didnt visit right places if you were looking for cheaper drinks. hungarian girls should be hottest in region (urban legend) everything has its price ;)
