they have temporary licenses for visitors for fishing I'm not sure about hunting, but the main reason I think is cause your not a local resident and they don't want  you coming and killing a bunch of deer then taking them out of state to your house.

It probably goes to just the basic human emotion of sticking it to the outsiders, because we don't like them coming in here and killing our game. If they do, they will have to pay through the nose for it. Just an opinion, certainly not any facts involved here.

I live in Alaska.  For us - out of state hunters are somwhat problematic - certainly not all of them..... but they are by far the most common to end up being rescued by helicopter or commit wildlife enforcement infractions that need to be investigated.  Someone needs to pay for these services.

Many states fund most of thier wildlife projects from the proceeds of out of state license buyers.  This has the effect of re-building and increasing the hunting area, and, it makes the state residents who hunt less likely to act unfriendly to out of state hunters hunters competiting for the same game animals, since these non-resident hunters are the ones actually paying for many of the state wide improvements.

Me, personally.  I think your out of state license and tags should be reduced by 10% to 20% each year that you buy them in a row.  Out of state hunters bring allot of toursit dollars to states - unfortunatly - nobody wants to hear about this since the sport involves evil guns.

If you want to hunt Alaska - email me.  I am one of the few people who has seen the entire state from Attu to Anchorage and Barrow to Canada.  Thanks to 7 tours of duty and 10 years as an advanced EMT there isn't a square mile here I have not flown over, hunted, trapped, fished, worked on or been stuck, stranded or crashed a plane on.

revenues, you are not a citizen of there state, so you have not paid state taxes. thus the higher fee to out of staters to pay for the priveledge of their natural resources.

The same reason that out of state tuition to  most colleges is higher. People will pay it.

Because the state is selling off the resources that should go to it's residents

Selling high to foreigners helps keep the price down for locals

you dont pay for the gases and taxes and all the other stuff so they sky rocket the price
