  1. because with some of the money you pay for thoose item it goes to a company to help save the planet

  2. I am a member of Shaklee.  I buy all my cleaning supplies from them.  I paid $13.50 for a bottle of laundry soap and the same for a bottle of fabric softener.  The soap lasted 2 months.  I use half an ounce for a super sized load.  And the fabric softener, I still haven't finished because you use an ounce of that and mix it with a cup of water.  Does 3 loads.  I do 6-10 loads of laundry a week.

And don't get me started on the Basic H2.  Its concentrated so you add your own water.  You make an all purpose formula, window cleaner and a degreaser bottle.  Awesome stuff.  I clean my whole house with this.  No other cleaners.  Even in the bathroom.  You can email me, click on my picture.

  3. The whole reason the planet is in jeopardy is because it is so cheap to destroy it.  So it makes sense it would cost to save it.

  4. yes...i have an answer for you.....VINEGAR CLEANS EVERYTHING INCLUDING CARPET AND UPHOLSTERY STAINS!!!!!!!! the smell lasts a short time...invest in some incense...also, lemon juice and borax will take anything off of your oven and bathtub....being green is soooo inexpensive, people just don't know....if you have any other questions about inexpensive ways to contribute, just e-mail me deoderantfree@yahoo.com

  5. Your not saving the planet. Your harming your wealth and health at the same time.(Besides for the Recycling, that's good)

For one, green cleaning products aren't much safer than regular. Not everything artificial is bad you know.

Flourescent lights are very very very harmful to humans. The actual light it emitts is bad for us.

This is why you sometimes get headaches in office buildings or other places with lots of flourescent lights.

It gives off lots of electromagnetic radiation.

I went into a room filled all around with plasma televisions(uses miniature flourescent lights to project the image) and I looked at my cell phone and it was going haywire.

FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE! Don't use flourescent lights, LED's are alot better =) and they last atleast 10 years.

  6. the bulbs are expensive but theyre good ... hmmmm..... reusing stuff is not an expensive thing ;)

    hmmmm......CFC's free sprays are cheap....

  7. It is expensive b/c for at least 150 yrs we have perfected the products we use now. Going Green has really only been around for the last 25yrs or so, and until about 5 yrs ago the manufactors where limited, let alone scientists are limited with what they can use and test to secure that products really are green. Not to mention the overhead cost of buiding manufacturing companies that don't pollute, Writing policies and compling with them, the cost of labor, ect.......

So they have no choice but to push it on to us. Plus All the other products have investors with a lot of money, most green companies don't have access to those kinds of funds.. Think John Edwards vs Hilary Clinton. She has been able to come so far b/c of the funds available. In time things will become cheaper, until then we must pay the price of our actions. Hope that helped.

  8. Its the same reason tv dinners made of c**p cost a buck and healthy eating costs quite a bit.  Oil is cheap and easy, the good stuff costs more to build and maintain.

  9. The question could be, why are non-green items so cheap. A cotton Tee shirt is made from a fibre than kills thousands of cotton growers every year..... but for sure it is cheap... cheaper than a pint of lager! Buy organic cotton or hemp garments and they are more expensive... but the cost to the producers is much less. Perhaps if we understood more about where stuff was made and the impact it has on the environment, we would buy more carefully.

  10. clean less? surely cleaning products are only a tiny part of your budget. and you deserve the best. there have been studies linking breast cancer with strong cleaning products

  11. Part of the reason it is so expensive is that right now many people are more aware of their responsibility to make more ethical choices, and so the products that are coming out are being priced accordingly...unfortunately the greed that got us into this mess will probably be the same greed that will keep us in it!

  12. Bad is cheap. Good is expensive. I hate it, just like you :P

    Greed.

  13. People who see an opportunity to sell something that helps your conscience would like to make a lot of money.

Ordinary lye based soap, the cheapest soap you can make is environmentally safe. That is, if potassium oxide is found in wood ash, every tree in the woods has it, and always has, and every tree, every plant needs it to live, we are not concerned about potassium oxide other than in high concentrations... just dilute it.

Prewashing with just water cuts the need for expensive cleaning agents.

  14. because as soon as you fix something someone destroys it.

  15. Because it just is, that's why it was never done, because companies care about the bottom line: profits.

Although w/ the light bulbs, if you analyze cost to life cycle, you actually save more.

If you buy a hybrid, you pay more up-front for the better technology, but you'll save it on gas in about 5-6 years.
