  1. Unemployment is at 8% here in Chicago.  It's similar elsewhere.

You are not the only one looking for a job.

People with 25+ experience are getting layed off and having difficulty finding a job.

  2. They don't want to hire someone inexperienced, but how are you going to get experienced if no one wants to give you your first oppurtunity?  It's a bit of catch 22.  From what I've seen, you have to know someone on the inside to help get your foot in the door.  If you're a solitary type of person and don't have connections, you'll be at a big disadvantage.  And with the current state of the economy, many people, even the experienced, are finding jobs hard to come by.

  3. Dude!!! Work at COLDSTONE CREAMERY! It's a great place to work for a first job...you can't earn squat but you get to sing and dance while you work...get a free icecream with every shift...and best of all everyone splits tips at closing time!! It's great!

  4. I'm sorry you're having struggles getting your first job.  I am a business owner so I will give you my own opinion (hope it helps explain what might be happening).

We are facing the worst economy I've experienced in my life and in business, your goal is to build the best team to be successful and profitable.  Today (w/the economy) it is especially important because times are REALLY tough.

That said, this is probably why potential employers want people with experience rather than "taking a risk" on someone who doesn't have much right now.  I'm not saying it won't happen, but that's probably very likely why.  And know it's not personal; it's purely business in quite a difficult economy.  Even seasoned professionals are getting laid off and having a hard time...it's not just you.

In the interim, I would suggest getting any type of job that can give you SOME kind of experience in your field definitely.  Even if that means working 2 part time jobs (one in your field and the other just to help you make money).  But - in my opinion - if you keep hearing the same thing over and over ('you need experience'), they are actually helping you out and letting you know what you need to be successful moving forward.  That's what I would focus on...in whatever way you can get it.

By the way, there are employers that will take a risk and hire w/o experience if they really believe in you.  But if it were me, I'd try to set myself up in a position where I will stand out to a potential employer and get any useful experience I could in the meanwhile!  Good luck! :)  Don't fret...it WILL work out!

  5. I'm 15 and I applied for a job for the first time a month ago and got the job two weeks after and I was fired because I didn't understand everything fast enough, it was at a local veterinary office, try looking at one by your house

  6. Experienced people do not take as long to train as a first timer.  Training people takes time and costs money.  You have to pay a person to train them until they can do the job by themselves.  Manpower is expensive.
