The only jobs are fast food jobs. Why can't there be more options?

  1. its just he economy. I"m 26 and sometimes still have a hard time finding something good

  2. Maybe they just want experience..but always start with something small, work hard, and you'll end up with something big :)

  3. It's the lack of experience and maturity I think... I'm 23... I graduate HS I finished my Trading school. I have a degree in Pharmacy, I am certified by the state board of pharmacy, and I am registered with the state. Sounds great right?! NO... it's not good enough. I worked with Walgreens for ever. Which by the way is the easiest place to get a job. I lost my job (kind of left-difficult to explain) but it took me 3 months to get another job..... It's not just you hunny....

  4. how is it hard, im 14 and hav a job

  5. lack of experience

  6. No skills, no experience, not trustworthy (not you, in general), not mature enough, risky for employers than someone more stable.  I was an assistant buyer for a big department store when I was 17, but I had to work like heck for a long time to get that job, and it was very hard work, but good pay at that time for my age.

  7. I am 15 and am happily employed making significantly more than minimum wage, as are most of my friends (one makes 3-4 dollars more than minimum!). (I am in Canada, so the situation is probably slightly different in the States.)

I got the first job I applied for, at a toy store. I have friends who work at supermarkets (stocking shelves and cleaning) and in cinemas, selling tickets. I have a friend who worked at a gift shop in an amusement park, and in an American Eagle. I have a friend who works at the Gap. I have a friend who works as an accompanist for a choir (she plays piano). I have a friend who is a DJ for bar mitzvahs and such. I have a friend who works at Starbucks, one at Timothy's and one at Coffee Time.

There are lots of non-fast-food options (mostly in retail, though). It just depends on your interest/skills, and your résumé-writing skills. I got my job as a salesperson at a toy store with NO retail experience (no work experience at all, actually), and a few hours experience volunteering at a charity (practically no overlap in skill set). It was all about finding a good opportunity, and writing a great résumé. I make $7.75 an hour, have a very flexible schedule, and enjoy my job immensely. And my managers are great.

  8. tell me about it ...they want you to be a rocket scientist for most jobs nowadays

  9. There are. i am competing in the same job market as you only I have 25 years experience behind me. They hire just as many people my age as yours for the same wages. What a world. Go to a tele-marketing company, Usually you will get some commissions along with your wages, they pay better than McDonalds and looks better on a future resume. You can work in an animal hospital or  as a wait person. They will hire you.
