I have a college degree, and over 8 years experience in office type environment, and I have been trying to get a staff/admin job with the government, and have been denied for 2 positions applied this year. I'm awaiting to hear for another one, but this is very frustrating.

The latest one had an update online that said: "not qualified for 1 year specialized experience under that specific grade. Under the specialized experience I have put more than enough examples in their essay questionaire, and I don't know what else to do.

When I see who works for some of these gov agencies, I know that I am more qualified than they are. This is very very frustrating.

  1. becuase the goverment only wonts people who are over the age of 40 cant you see why all the people who work there are all old

  2. i got hired in to the post office (slightly different but still gov.) at the age of 21 with no experience in anything. it was my first real job. it was a long year process of testing and then training and what not before i actually started.

  3. I've noticed that it's all about "diversity".  If there are too many people of your "race"... they are more likely to decline you .  It doesn't make any sense - I have seen several LESS qualified people get hired over someone more qualified & suited for the job only because they were a certain race.  Good luck to you!

  4. I know that race plays a BIG issue in these jobs. They have to fill a quota and they will do it. You can be 100000 times better than someone of a different race, but guess what? You are no getting hired. I lost out on a job because of this recently and it made me sick. The person they hired could not even form a sentence properly and she will be dealing with people daily. Lovely. I even scored higher on the test, but so much for that. I have learned these tests are often a joke, too, esp. for the county jobs in my state. I have taken several tests where I scored very high. One of the jobs went to the person who scored #15. I was #3. If it is not race, it is politics, which I think may be even worse-who you know, not what you know. Disgusting. I have seen many of the people in these jobs, too, and they are either lazy or incompetent or plain rude. They know it is very hard to get fired, so they do not care.

  5. The government sucks they want who they want the people don't matter. Good luck
