I'm not saying that I feel it shouldn't be acceptable, just asking how it came to be something that we as society see as.... what's meant to be ... kinda (at loss for words sorry)

  1. In general, people appreciate others who wish to better themselves (and/or their families) and want to do well in life.

HOWEVER, I've been a teacher for 22 years, and I tell my 9th graders at the start of EVERY year that school is not for every one.  There are SO many people who don't go to college or even graduate that I'm thankful for - the guy who fixes my car; the plumber; the lawn-care people; the custodians . . . Those people have a purpose and do their jobs well and enjoy what they do.  That's why we're here; it's NOT why we go to school!

Maybe some people are "starting at the bottom and working their way up."  Who knows?  I just know that the type of "learning" that public school usually focuses on is "book learning" (except at vocational schools).  But that "book learning" is NOT the only talent people have - what about actors, athletes, artists, plumbers, etc.

  2. Because for a long time, education was reserved for the rich aristocracy.  For lower class people to get an education of any kind was very rare, and considered a huge opportunity when they were able to.

  3. Should it not be acceptable to go to school? I don't understand the question. Are you implying that we should all be home schooled?  If you are then how do you determine the quality of your education or the quality of your instructor.Granted the US educational systems is in the toilet but if we take a lesson from Europe and Asia we get a much higher quality education. College has made it easier to train future employees of jobs. It would be hard now to train somebody to design a rocket to send a satellite in orbit with no experience.

  4. i don't know...but alot of people probably only go to get out oftheir small town

  5. Because  it was always 'educated' people that made the laws.
