  2. Imagine having everything you could ever possibly want.  Think of how that must take away the challenges of life.  And, at the same time, imagine having hords of people totally dependant on your success...the "Entourage" these stars must have around is really astonishing.  The stress must be terriffic...and eventually, the circle of frined you have are all filthy rich and filled with the same level of stress and boredome you have.  They feed each others egos and spheres of knowledge and expereinces.  It would mrely be a matter of time before someone like Williams or people like him to be exposed to every kind of illegal drug.  The ultimate daring experience would be from such substances. The "occassional" recreation use of these powerful substances very quickly turns into a craving habit.

I was once in the hospital for a painful condition and the Dr. gave me a very powerful pain killer medication.  My pain was instantly relieved...not only the pain of my illness...but also all my other day to day pains...I was very shocked at how badly I wanted more of that substance..even after I was out of the hospital.  I quickly understood the power of drugs to make us addicted to them.

  3. Drug addiction is a huge challenge for anyone, but when you're wealthy and popular that's an added challenge.  You have enough money to spend on drugs.  You have fun while on drugs (sometimes- for a while).  You get a lot of attention while doing drugs.  It's hard to admit it's not working, that it's s******g up your life.

And people do drugs for a simple reason.  It feels good.  Later on it may not feel as good but doing the drug feels better than withdrawal (depending on the drug).  And there are so many situations where you're used to doing them that it can be hard to kick them in all those different situations... you run into an old drug buddy or go to a place that reminds you of a place where you used to do drugs or whatever, and you're tempted again.

It's more complex than can be answered here, but it's a difficult deal for anyone.

  4. As I am not a star, it is difficult to say exactly why, but I would hazard a guess that it starts one of two ways. One, stars need to be "up" when they do a show, and when you do the same show night after night for a year or two (depending on how long the road trip is) it can get difficult to be as enthusiastic as one needs to be to go out on stage in front of several thousand people, as well as dealing with the travel. So, they take a little something to help them out. And then they need something to come down off the adreneline high of performing, so they can sleep. So, they take something else. All of a sudden, they are taking more stuff to get "up" and more stuff to come "down", until they have to graduate to more powerful drugs, eventually ending up on coke, crack, heroin, or something like it.

Another reason is that most of the stars are young, have a lot of cash, no restrictions, no one telling them to behave properly, and too many people hanging off of them, telling them how to be cool, etcetc. It's tough, even though it may not seem like it. And if they aren't strong people to begin with (and many performers aren't the most well-adjusted people, especially around self-esteem), then it doesn't take much for them to seek a way of being a star all the time.
