  1. The U.S. has always counted on the most medals. Currently the U.S. is ahead of China so that's why, but China does have more golds.

  2. They meant total (or overall) medals.  The US only focuses mainly on total counts even when the US lead Gold medal counts in previous Olympics.

I would have to see exactly what you read.  They might have been talking about All time medals where the US has been one of the most successful nations in that aspect.  Granted China has started to compete in the Olympics in the last few decades.

Just b/c China leads in the Gold medal count doesn't mean the US are sore losers.  The USSR dominated the Olympics Gold and overall medals for quite a long time.

  3. Who cares if China has more gold medals...

Would you rather meet someone who wins a gold medal in ping pong or a medal in 100meter dash?

Ping pong shouldn't even be in the Olympics. The ancient Greeks are rolling over in their graves.

  4. because Yahoo is American, and trying to soften the blow about the golds. Some say America has always used medal count, but I'm not sure if that's true.

I don't think it's accurate on whose doing better, because bronzes don't equal golds, but I'm not sure what counting system would be. I've heard 3 points for gold, 2 for silver and 1 for bronze suggested but I think a gold is worth more than 1 and a half silvers.

  5. it's not up to date

  6. US has more total medals, while China has more gold medals.
