On the 5th i applied for an apartment, my current lease is up. they said 3-5 days sometimes 7 for a response back. well today is the 8th day and still no response. thing is i have a broken lease from 5 years ago but have good standing with this apt. they did credit check on the 5th and then called my apts on the 10th for verification of rental. so why hasent she called back yet? Is it a good sign if she is taking this long, or a bad sign? Thanks

  1. Call them up and ask what the deal is.  Tell them you need an answer as you need to make other arrangements if this doesn't work out.  5 years is a long time so maybe that won't hurt to to much, but you never know what they'll say.  I don't think this is necessarily a good or bad sign, they are just slow.

Also, when I get nervous about something like this I find it really helps to plan out what I'm going to do.  It would be something like if they call me back and say yes within 48 hours I'll take the place.  If they say no I'll immediately apply here and here and talk to my current landlord about staying over.  I'll check with my friend if I can stay with them a few days in case I need to.  If I don't hear back within 48 hours I'll start applying here and here anyhow.  As long as you have a valid plan about how you are going to handle the situation no matter what happens you will be alot less nervous.  The nervousness is from not knowing what you will do.

    Best luck.

  2. Call them.

  3. Call and ask, that is the only way to know for sure. .>

  4. For one thing, you screwed yourself up by waiting till the last minute to look for a new place. Did you give notice to your current apartment manager that you're NOT renewing? If you gave notice BEFORE getting approved for a new place, that's also a mistake.

Call the place where you applied. Broken leases are black marks on anyone's record, but if you've been otherwise very clean, rent wise, since then, it might be okay.

The worst that can happen is you'll be turned down.

Call them and tell them time is precious.

I'm not sure what area you're in, but the last time I applied for a new lease in a new place, I was approved within 10 minutes through the apartment complex's corporate office website.
