  1. different sports have different age limits

  2. The age limit, where necessary, is set for each sport by the International Federation for that sport.

    From the Official IOC website:

There is no age limit for competing in the Olympic Games, except for those that may be imposed by individual IFs.

  3. There is no age requirements for the Olympic Games. You could be any age and still play in the Olympic Games. All you have to do is practice and get noticed. ALOT!

  4. Only 3 sports have an actual age requirement and gymnastics is one of them. Stop asking this question diving and gymnastics are not the same sports.

  5. Only gymnastics has an age limit, the other events do not.

  6. I've been asking the same question.  Apparently, gymnastics is the only competition with the 16 year old age limit.  The International Gymnastics Federation apparently got together to decide on an age limit because younger girls decidedly had a slight advantage over older girls in flexibility.  However, there was a drawback to having the 14 year old competitors because after competition, the younger gymnasts were developing mental or psychological problems later on in life.  So they decided to raise the age limit to curb competitive advantage and reduce the chance of psychological problems for the athletes.

  7. Each sport has different age requirements. Diving is 14
