I recently left the military and am currenly enrolled in a massage therapy school locally. I was told up to this point that I would be able to get unemployment and am now being that they are denying me. I got an honorable discharge from the military after serving for 5 years. They are claiming that since I cant job search 24hrs a day I am ineligable. However school only takes four hrs a day. Im not trying to leach the system I just need transition funds and want to focus on school. I have applied for the CAT program but massage therapy is not in high demand so they denied it. How is it that I can serve my country, pay into the program but still not get it. I could get a min. wage job but that is not what I need. I wanted unemployment so I could focus on school, my transition and finding a good high paying job. Instead of letting my skills go to waste fliping burgers. Can anyone explain this? Even the people at unemployment cant. Thank you

  1. just lie about taking the course, refile and say you are not going to school right now.  Continue looking for work and document what you have applied for.  All the while keep going to school

  2. I was in the same position, I was honorably discharged and went to school straight after wards lucky for me I went to the veteran rep at the unemployment office and he told me DO NOT mention going to school, just put in a couple of online  job applications every other day and log them so you have a record of applying for jobs....unfortunately its the only way to get unemployment and go to school, they really need to do better by the vets, also look into your MGIB it will help out also

  3. This is just an exuse for them, next time do not mention school until you get hired. Then when you get hired let them know. Hey you got to learn how to play the game to get what you want. When they think they going to play you, show them that you are ahead of the game. Good luck.
