Why is it that all the movies made about the Mafia identify them as being Catholics.?

Like you will find one of the brothers or a cousin happens to be a practising priest or something to that nature of the script. Another is at the funerals which are always catholic dominated. You don't see them at say a Mormons church for the funeral of a Godfather or another gangster having been murdered for the last rights on this planet.

So what are your observations.

From what I understand to be a full Mafiosi you must be of Italian, preferably Sicilian parentage on both sides. I'm not aware that any Protestant church, let alone the Mormons has much of a following among Italians or Sicilians.

Because most of them were Catholics. A few were Jews but most were either Italian or Irish Catholics. Mormons were never known to be gangsters.

Mafia originates in Italian decent. Italy and its surrounding territories are majorly Catholic. Gangsters are Catholic for the most part.

Because they are Italian, almost all Italians are Catholic. Not all, but almost all are Catholic. So it would make sense that in a Movie Italians are Catholic, or the movie wouldn't be perceived as real.
