Why is it that applications and use of semiconductors seem to be more than that of conductors?

  1. While semiconductors can have their characteristics controlled by voltages and currents applied to them, conductors cannot.

    All that a conductor can do is to carry current. It does not vary in its characteristics.

    A semiconductor can function as a switch by being turned on and off by a voltage applied to it.The CPU in your PC has millions upon millions of tiny switches made from semiconductors to run its programs.
