Why is it that consoles are getting cheaper, but games are just as expensive?

Because the games or what they rely on making money.

It's a zero sum game -- if they make one cheaper they have to make up the losses somewhere else.  In the old days people figured out that you could sell one part of a mechanism cheaper if people had to keep buying some replaceable or disposable part -- think razor blades or Polaroid cameras and film.  You could afford to give away the handle or the camera if the customer was going to keep coming back for the blades or the film

The games are probably just as expensive because it takes a lot of hard work to put so much data onto a disk. Otherwise the Consoles can just be easily made with a bunch of parts over and over. Especially brand new games cost very expensive. Just wait about 4 months, it will drop at least 10 dollars if your looking to buy one

Multiple reasons

1. The company needs to make money so they find a price that will be best for selling as many consoles as possible well still making a profit.

2. After time a lot of games come out, and with word of mouth people buy more consoles and the company can lower the price so that they can when over customers from there competition.

3. The Consoles will get cheaper over about 8 years till the price drops to about 30 bucks and the consoles have been replaced.

Games go threw the same life cycle. The come out and cost about 50 or 60 bucks. Once they start selling less they need to lower the price to give reason for people to keep buying it. some games stay popular so there price is still high.

And games come out at the price they do because it takes An Incredible amount of time and effort to make games today, years typically. And then theres awalys hundred of thousands of bugs that need to be eliminated and fixing one might make 2 more and its just a long painfull process.

Some games dont take a long time to make like guitar hero but since everyone else has there games priced at 50 and 60 they do as well to.

...Cheaper?!? The PS3 originally costed $600. That isn't cheap. And the 360 was around $400. But that aside, games are more expensive because the disk's are more expensive to make because they hold more room.
