Why is it that every black dog?

Question

How come when people post a question "What breed is my dog mixed with?" if the dog has any black on it, 80% of the answers are "Lab mix"?

There are other breeds that are black, right? Have you ever wondered this?

I got a Border Collie X from the pound (they think it's a spaniel X though)

And when we went to Animates (pet shop) they said it looks like a lab, and some border collie.

Than again she looks like our dog just without the Newfoundland. So she probably is a lab X collie.

I'm surprised how many people wonder if JJ is a Lab cross/mix. I think it's the tail that confuses them so much....

Um No Crispy....you're wrong. All dogs that have black in them are labs...duh! :P

I know, there could be many others. Rottweiler, Doberman....etc. I guess most people just look at the black colour, the face and the ears and assume its another lab.

u wont belive it, now , a minute ago was the question about the dog,puppy, like who is this pupy mix, and the pup was black. and 2 or 3 of them said probably a lab mix. and the pup looks nothin like lab

the eyes are , like, pekingese

People don't say Lab based on the color.  It's body structure, head shape, eye and ear shape.  There are more factors than just being black.  Labs and Lab mixes are super common.

ADD: Also, not everyone is right.  It could just be a guess, a point-grab?

They only know the common breeds like... Labs,GSD,Huskies.

So they automaticly think *Labrador*. 'Cause its the only black they really know of!

At the shelter that I volunteer for, the "Breed" space on the forms for all the dogs that come in either says "Pit mix" or "Shep mix" or "Chi mix".  Even for dogs that are obviously something else!  It's silly!

yea i have wondered but i suppose labs are well known black dogs(even tho they can be yellowish beige)

there are loads of other dog breeds that are black true
