    Come on man.......funk dat"

  5. All radio station managers believe the average listener listens for only a few minutes at a time while they are driving.  They do not believe very many listen to radio during prime time television hours.

All stations are geared toward contests to keep listener's interest.  They could have a million songs in their library, but it is easier to put a few on a tape or disk and keep revolving it.  You generally only get to hear 2 songs before there is a commercial or some announcement.  They thrive on listeners who request the 50 songs they play repeatedly.

Unfortunately the era of true Disk Jockeys is over.  There isn't any free thinking done behind the microphones anymore. No matter what genre of music the station is playing.

  6. Satellite radio is just as bad don't get it twisted.  They play the popular songs a lot in order to make money.  The popularity usually runs its course in 10 weeks.

  7. cause they want those songs to become "played out" and heard by everyone so that then they can find new songs to do the same thing to over and over again

  8. I feel you

  9. Duh can answer this perfectly....

But basically music on radio is tested and retested with a control group (basically you get people off the street to come and listen to snips of songs and vote on how well you like them) and what tests well is what usually airs on radio.

Unlike you (and me to a extent) most people rather familiarity over something new and/or different they are finding. Freeform radio except for stations that can afford to do it (such as college stations, non commercial, and owners that can afford to bank roll a station like that) are increasingly staying with tried and true and people complain about it.

Top 40 radio, is just as the name says.. roll the top 40 songs in the nation (I've seen stations play a song up to 12 times in one day so far... normal for other formats is about 5 times in one 24 hour period) and run them till they hit number one and fall out of the charts... (Most non top 40 stations have a 300-400 song active rotation list with them playing roughly 100 songs the most)

Someone said Sat radio.... Satellite radio does the same thing now a days, just a little less amount of times rolling the same songs. Only place for variety is internet radio (as it can tailor a listeners experience harder than radio)

  10. satellite is worth it

  11. You need Satelite Radio my friend.

  12. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, BIG BUSINESS. If you're listening to a Clear Channel Station, you'll hear the same c**p coast to coast all day.

  13. Most stations are obligated to play their genre's Top 40 hits. It's all about money, not music. If it were about music we could call the station and request any song on the album we like, not just the singles. Try that sometime; call up your station and request some obscure song and see what happens.
