every time i write a song and finish it, i never completely like it and then i always go back and change things and i still don't fully like it? sometimes it takes months to finish one song.

then i listen to my favorite artists and hear how good their music sounds and i start comparing it to mine and i feel like c**p. it seems like my music just isn't as good as theirs.

is it normal to feel these things? have you ever experienced this?

  1. Professional writers often scrap 100 to 1.

    Normal.  I know the feeling.

  2. It's normal. I've experienced it and always will.

Don't compare your music to your favorite artists (or anyone else for that matter). That'll only bring you down. Focus on you! Turn your favorite artists music into inspiration.

  3. im a pro musician, and let me tell you sometimes it takes years for me to finish a song, but in the end itsalways worth it.  the reason that you feel your songs arent as good as your favorite artists is probably beacuse you arent your own favorite band, which is fine.  my favorite band is the smashing pumpkins, and i know that none of my songs are as good as theirs, and i may never like them as much, but thats okay because i know some people think my songs are better.

another part of it is that only you know whats wrong with your song, if someone else hears it, they wont have your doubts or opinions, they dont know what you want the song to sound like, they just know what it does sound like.  its always good to have a third ear, so to speak

  4. I bet you can't  play baseball like A Rod either...............

You are compairing  yourself to the BEST...............and they have a team to help them..........

you don't .keep trying and put it out,,,,,,,someone has to sing it

  5. Its normal. The solution is to keep working on it.

When I write and feel its not as good as it could be, I spend a week not thinking about it (unless something good pops into my head)  and when I come back to it, I am more exited and it usually comes out better. Then, if I get frustrated later I just take another break, and when I come back I usually feel OK and I can fix what I don't like.

Another solution is to look for insperation in others. You can ask for help or an opinion.

    hope this helps!
