Why is it that evolution bashing creationists can't figure out that the word "theory" is NOT a synonym with "speculation" when used scientifically? In fact it would be more appropriate in its scientific use to align it with the word "fact" so long as it has passed the tests of empiricle observation over time! I almost expect to see half of the population of the United states floating up into space declaring "The theory of gravity is just speculation!!!" For a while they may even be happy thinking that they are floating to heaven... before they reach the stratosphere!

  1. Can you really 'not figure that out'? Tell us why it seems so important to 'figure it out' if you trust in God so...

  2. If someone believes in creation, I wouldn't expect him or her to be very bright in the first place.  Words like "theory" and "science" do not come easily to them.  Unfortunately, many creationists do have the intellect to understand evolution; they simply don't want to.  They do not care about facts; they already "know" how life got here, because of what the Bible says and what their "heart" says.  Most creationists will never get out of this mindset, so it's pointless to argue with them.  We just need to educate children not to be ignorant and not to allow these creationists into the legislature (and executive office)!!!

  3. It's just my personal theory - but I think "evolution bashing creationists" are undeniable proof of correctness of the theory of evolution! Hoho.

It may take us another few thousand years (God - pun intended - I hope not tens of thousands or more) - but creationism as a "theory" will finally die.

We all just need to - um... - "evolve" a bit more.

  4. It's not that 'they' can't 'figure it out'....most either have been...1. more or less brain washed by many types of religions.

2.Have had an 'under-education' in the subjects of anthropology, paleontology, and ancient history.

    3.Prefer to remain 'creationists'...it's simpler...

4.Have been wrongfully 'taught' that Darwin stated 'man CAME FROM apes'.....[ what is incorrect in this statement, (and I hear it all the time from students who have either received this information in their home, school or elsewhere), is....Darwin did not...at any time mention 'Man' when he created his evolutionary statements]. His contemporary, Wallace, did so, but with 'reservations' and when directly asked, Darwin refused to say anything about the evolution of humans....

When it was later published, it was the 19th C. media who stated humans 'came from' apes.

Of course, we now are discovering much more about the evolution of humans through the DNA and mtDNA process....but the correct version would be, if anything, 'humans were a branch of a family tree which brought about many mammalian species...humans are just one of them'.

  5. Actually, theories encompass fact. I get your meaning, though. In my Webster's 11th Collegian dictionary the scientific meaning of theory is the 1st ( preferred? ) meaning given. Go figure.

  6. I guess that creationists do not know that when they are confused about a word like “theory” or any other for that matter, that they can type the word into wikipedia and read the definition for themselves?

    I’ll do it for them:

“In science, a theory is a mathematical or logical explanation, or a testable model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation. It follows from this that for scientists "theory" and "fact" do not necessarily stand in opposition. For example, it is a fact that an apple dropped on earth has been observed to fall towards the center of the planet, and the theories commonly used to describe and explain this behaviour are Newton's theory of universal gravitation (see also gravitation), and General relativity.”

What really confuses me, however, is “Why do the non-evolution believing creationists endeavour to answer a question asking about evolution in the first place?”  That is the real question!
