Why is it that foreign EU drivers licences is accepted in the UK?

I mean why do us english splash out hundreds and hundreds of pounds on learning to drive etc when foreigners such as polish just need to simply move a car to pass their polish driving licence but then can legally drive on UK roads with it!?!

its not just english who have to pass a driving test btw :)

well its a basic "Britain is too scared to stand up to immigrants" situation, nothing more

its a sad state of affairs, but unfortunately its the way things are these days
