  1. Firstly it depends on your community and the laws of your country etc. Several countries around the world offers great protection to their homosexual citizens, however you can not always be excluded from discriminatory practices. You can read more about public perceptions in different areas as well as the countries that implement laws regarding the protection of LGBT people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights

Centuries ago, homosexuality was regarded as the norm in several countries such as Greece and Japan. As the world grew more "organised" and more guided by the church and other laws, attitudes seemed to have changed. The Catholic Church and other religious institutions pushed the fact that this behaviour is unacceptable, and due to these man made laws, attitudes began to sour.

In my opinion the following factors play a key role in discrimination:

    1) Religion

Various religions condemn the practise of homosexuality. Although many people in moderate religious movements are becomming more tolerant towards homosexuality, it is still used as a tool to discriminate and judge. In Islam and Christianity it is regarded as a sin, and also several other religions follow suit. Read here for more details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_an...

    2) Law

During the last few centuries most countries in the world imposed laws to "combat" homosexuality. There were many reasons, however the most common reasons were:

    - Population Growth/Political reasons - They wanted their respectavie nations to be prosperous and populous and g*y behaviour did not help this agenda

    - Religion - As discussed above

    - Regarded as a mental illness or immoral behaviour (largely due to invalid scientific research

These laws are slowly being abolished in most western countries, however public perceptions remain. People tend to educate their children on the basis of the perceptions.

    3) Homophobia

Some people have an absolute fear of homosexual people. This has a lot to do with gender roles. A g*y man is not considered to be a man in many societies, and therefor an aggresive fear is created.

    4) Nature an Biology

A lot of people claim that homosexuality is against nature, although a lot of research done has been done to show the contrary

    5) Mental Illness

Although this has been disproven, a lot of people still believe this is the truth.

There are many other reasons, but I hope this will help.

  2. that's just because whether g*y or straight, they are still human beings perceiving and going by what they grew up learning and also by what the media shows.

g**s can be just as bad discrimination others as racists at times...
